South Coast Indigenous Employment Expo

Today Eva and Zoe from Education found themselves on the sunny South Coast of NSW in Nowra.
The Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre was taken over for the day by more than 70 exhibitors aimed at educating the youth of the area about different career paths and employment opportunities.
Over 600 school students and job seekers attended the event. Some of the other exhibitors were NSW Police, University of Canberra, National Parks and Wildlife, Tafe NSW, Defence Force and Shoalhaven Hospital.
There is an RSPCA shelter in West Nowra so Eva and Zoe were able to talk about various roles working with animals such as animal attendants, vet  nurses and veterinarian.

Did you meet Eva at today's expo?

Education Team v Cupcake Day

Monday 20th August was RSCPA's Annual Cupcake Day.

Staff from the Education Team were lucky enough to attend some of the Cupcake Events hosted by schools, childcare centres, universities and workplace organisations!

Narelle and Zoe spent the day at Macquarie University assisting the students and staff sell cupcakes to hungry, in-need-of-a-sugar-hit, students. Cupcakes were baked and bought in by all, and sales at the end of the day reached OVER $1600! Well done Macquarie, and Thank you so much from RSPCA NSW.

Let the sugar high begin!

What a way to kick off the festivities for RSPCA's annual Cupcake Day!

Yesterday saw Education Officer, Eva and Events Team, Sarah and Jess, inhaling the sweet scent of sugary goodness at Artarmon Public School.

Don't be fooled into thinking small people, small impact because the 850 strong school population baked up a storm and the coinage was busily swapping hands as the kids scrambled to claim their favourite cupcake creation!

The day started with Eva enlightening the Year 3-6 students on how fundraising assists RSPCA NSW continue their work helping unwanted, abused and neglected animals and it provided even more reason to buy that extra cupcake!

The cupcake part of the Cupcake Day went by in a blur of colours, coins and...raffle tickets?! That's right, one very smart Year Sixer came up with the idea of raffling off a GIGANTIC cupcake to raise even more...imagine winning it...

Our biggest thank you to Jono and Caroline for organising one of the most amazing Cupcake Day events seen by the Team and ofcourse to each and every Artarmon Public student for supporting RSPCA NSW.
That's enough words for now, treat your eyes to a feast of awesomeness below!

Sarah and Jess ready and raring to go!

Drool...
Who's been walking all over these?!

'R' is for "ribbet?"

'R' is for ROAR!

Caroline can't help but laugh at how enthusiastic the
staff got, hehe

The sweet taste of success, good work Jono!

R, U, S, T, Y and Rusty was his name, oh!

What a great way to end another school visit!

Education Officer, Eva, was honoured to have a song sung about her bestest toy dog friend 'Rusty' this morning, following another insightful 'Dog Safety' talk at a School in North Sydney.

The students were quick to pick up on what was the safest way to interact with our canine companions and with the guidance of their super-supportive teachers, couldn't be tricked when Eva asked them a few random questions.

The students were already fans of RSPCA as evidenced by their ownership of the complete collection of RSPCA Tales - the picture books! They expressed their outrage following a recent reading of 'Rose gets respect', exclaiming that they would never do anything like that!

Smart students, terrific teachers, RSPCA readings and a catchy chorus - what more could we ask for!

And how did the song go you ask? Like this ofcourse...

"There was a woman who had a dog and Rusty was his name oh!"
"R.U.S.T.Y!"
"R.U.S.T.Y!"
"R.U.S.T.Y!"
"And Rusty was his name oh!"
"I like the sound of that!"
